    Description

Cast Your Own Weights! DIY Set of 5 Olympic Concrete Weight Molds.
They are fully reusable. You can make as many plates as you want.
    This listing includes the following:
    45 LB Olympic plate mold
    35 LB Olympic plate mold
    25 LB Olympic Plate mold
    10 LB Olympic Plate mold
    5 LB Olympic Plate mold
    You will also need:
Concrete mix. I find that regular Quikrete brand mix works well for making the weights accurate.
2" PVC pipe inserts. You will need to cut them to 2-3/8 inches. In order to have to right dimensions for Olympic plates this is the thickness that will let us reach the correct weight.
    Optional:
Castor/Olive/Vegetable/Petroleum Jelly or any other kind of oil. These help a lot with releasing the concrete plates from the molds.
Tape/ Hot Glue. Use this to attach the PVC insert into the middle of the molds. I find that it isn't needed but if you want the extra security then go ahead and use them.
Metal/ Fiber reinforcement. Some kind of wire or mesh or fiber can be inserted into the middle of the weights for added strength. I don't think it makes a difference whether you add them or not.
    Instructions
    1)
Place the mold on a level surface. (Optional: coat the inside of the mold with a very light coating of your choice of oil. I use vegetable oil. I find that it helps with releasing the finished weight.)
    2)
Place the PVC sleeve around the center ring in the center of the mold. (Optional: secure with tape or hot glue)
    3)
Mix the concrete. A wet mix gives the best results.
    4)
Fill the mold half way with concrete.
    5)
Press the concrete down into the mold with your hands. Twist the mold back and forth to level the concrete and remove any air bubbles. If you are going to add reinforcement now is the time.
    6)
Finish filling the mold with concrete.
    7)
Repeat step 5 and then you should be finished.
    8)
After a day or two your concrete should be cured enough to remove from the mold.
    Number 1 Tip!
Either mix fresh concrete for each mold, or add a little extra water in between filling molds. If you try to do it all at once the first weights may come out too wet and your later weights may come out too dry.
    Troubleshooting:
The smaller weights are naturally a little harder to release.
If the surface of your weights aren't coming out with a smooth texture, your concrete wasn't wet enough.
If the surface flakes off easily then your concrete was too wet.
