Exceptional Neoclassical intaglio gem of Venus carnelian 18th century

Description

This is a wonderful 18th-century Neoclassical intaglio of Venus. It is hand-engraved on a carnelian gemstone, with exceptional detail and artistic merit. The scene depicts a naked Venus confiscating an arrow from Cupid, she leans on a shield engraved with the initials of the owner "W.H."
The gem is free of chips and damage and is an exceptional piece in excellent condition.
